Description: LEED, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized green building certification system. LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building solutions. LEED is flexible enough to apply to all building types. It works throughout the building lifecycle, including operations and maintenance, and significant retrofit.
LEEDEBOM is considered by facility managers to be a big improvement over the original LEED Existing Building standard. LEEDEBOM focuses on the O&M aspects of buildings and facility managers are using it to guide benchmarking and direct limited dollar investments to high ROI opportunities. LEEDEBOM covers the broad spectrum of services required to assure the built environment is available to, and will perform the functions for which they were designed and constructed. The shift in focus from LEED-EB has allowed facility managers to concentrate on the efficient operation of their existing buildings rather than trying to meet standards more appropriate to new construction, as seen in the previous system, which was heavily influenced by the LEED-NC (New Construction) standard.
Local LEED Accredited Professional and LEED process instructor Kimberly Phipps-Nichol of Conservation Associates, LLC will be presenting an overview of the current US Green Building Council's LEED v.3, Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance process, and how it and similar rating systems can be implemented by healthcare properties to save money on operations & maintenance. If you've been wondering what LEED is all about or have executives asking you to save more money on O&M, please join us.
